This week at BestStart Inglewood we have been learning all about fire safety as this interest came from our last fire drill that we practice monthly with our children to ensure all children know what to do and how to keep themselves safe. To go along with this recent interest we invited our local community fire station in and they kindly came along and even did a mat time with us. We were even lucky enough to be able to explore the fire truck. Our children were so excited when they not only saw but heard the fire truck arriving. Our older children watched out the big windows and our younger children watched with the most excited eyes from the Pukeko's deck, to capture any glimpse of the Fire Truck as it arrived. Our children were amazed by the loud sirens and the flashing lights. All the children got a turn to go outside to explore and even have a sit in the truck. Mike the kind fore men showed us and taught us all about the different futures on the fire truck and how to keep our self safe.

We all learnt all about STOP, DROP, AND ROLL and how to safely get out if we need to. Our children sat with amazement as Mike was talking to us. They especially loved when Mike got all his  gear on and let us try it on also.

We are so grateful to have community involvement in our centre and are able to make connecting links within it as this teachers our children a sense of belonging and support for our community and beyond.
