Summer Fun Holiday Programme
The children at BestStart Katikati have be enjoying a lot of water play as part of the "Summer Fun Holiday Programme". It has been so hot that a bit of a cool down is needed. Each time we have water play we try and change it around, so it's not just the same thing. We have had ice, cleaning the playground equipment, water softball, a water slide, painting with water, water in the trough, sprinkler fun, water bubbles and lots of pouring and measuring.
The tamariki are learning a variety of skills such as hand eye coordination, learning to lift, pour and control water, concentrating and problem solving, and learning to share and cooperate with others. And of course, it is fun to cool down in! Water play gives children the opportunity to develop useful social skills while playing alongside other children (Te Whariki - contribution) and, where conflicts arise, there are opportunities to practice problem-solving. As part of the Belonging strand, they develop ideas about the limits and boundaries of acceptable behaviour. Our Summer Holiday program has been very popular and a great way to reconnect with friends who have been on holiday.
