Here at BestStart Dixon Heights we value te taiao (The natural world) and the opportunities it provides for our tamariki. Exploring a local farm has allowed us to connect regularly with nature in a very practical and hands on way.  Our tamariki are learning about sustainability through the food they grow at the farm.  They are able to see where their food scraps from the centre go as they feed them to the pigs and chickens.  They are also exploring natural resources such as leaves, sticks, flowers, fruits, bugs, birdlife and even the sound of the wind blowing through the trees creating natures music.

Our farm school program is designed for all ages and stages.  It links directly to our centre vision "nurture through nature" and allows us to really live our vision alongside our tamariki and their whaanau.
