At BestStart Hastings Central Kindy, rituals play a huge part in the flow of our day! A Storytelling Ritual is done every day with careful thought and intent by the teachers. Each week we retell the same story using natural materials and then the tamariki learn to retell the story on their own. Te wiki o te reo Māori is not something we do on one specific week of the year, we weave Te Ao Māori every single day so it is a natural part of our philosophy and teaching practices. This week our story is Maui and Mahuika, the goddess of fire. Our fire pit ritual was a way to go deeper into the story. We also got to enjoy a treat as a whānau
