At BestStart Coast Boulevard our babies love to play with balls, and we love finding new ways to explore our surroundings with the toys we have.

One day the teachers had set up some tunnels with plumbing pipe in our wonderful outdoor area. Our babies were able to grab a ball, push it into the tunnel and watch it pop out the other end like magic! It was such a curious yet wonderful experience, how did it get there? Why did it go all the way through? The face of our tamariki were full of smiles and joy as they waited for their balls to pop out the other end.

This was also a great opportunity to make some new friends, as our tamariki would put a ball in the tunnel and look around and make eye contact with their peers and smile to encourage them to come over and join in. Before long, there was a small group gathered and each time the ball slid down the tunnel they would grin at each other and laugh.

This was a great opportunity for our kaiako to explore colours with our tamariki, as they were able to talk about each colour ball they selected, and it was also a wonderful opportunity to practice our numbers, as kaiako helped tamariki count how many balls they were holding in their hands. What a fun and exciting learning experience to be shared!
