At BestStart Katikati the children in the over two room are intersted in learning about their bodies. The teachers have been supporting this interest through intentional teaching and setting up the environment with different provocations. Teachers provide materials, media, and general direction as needed, but the children take the ideas where they want.

The children are learning about self-care, such as hand washing and brushing hair. How to keep their bodies healthy with good food choices and different physical activities. This has now extended to naming their body parts and understanding how the body works. Through the attached photos you can see the children's delight and concentration in the activities that they choose to participate in.

The teachers support children with their exploration, allowing time to repeat the activities. Strengthening memory and allowing them to develop an understanding of why we need to look after ourselves. Teaching young children to look after their bodies helps them to grow into adults who want to keep their bodies strong and healthy so they can continue to do all the things they love to do.
