At BestStart this September, the Te Tipu room (0–2-year-olds) had a trip to Marshall’s Animal Park for a couple hours one Thursday morning. It was the first time the Kaiako in the room had been on an outing and a first time for the children as well. Kaiako Becky had planned this trip to coincide with their room planning which was about the natural world. What a perfect place to see different types of animals such as; goats, pigs, llamas, alpacas and guinea pigs to name a few.

It would be the first time for some of the children to see these types of animals. We organised for some of the parents to come along and join us and to share this experience with their children. It was such a good bonding experience between everyone. We all travelled around the farm together, looking at the different animals, feeding them, getting spooked when they got too close and finishing off the trip with a picnic at their open space, to relax, have lunch and a little play on their playground.

Overall, we had a blast and have decided as a team to do a big outing with everyone at least once a year and make it a Te Tipu family day out for all whanau to be invited along to get to know the other parents and the Kaiako more as it is such an important part of our role to be able to form great relationships with everyone.
