Our tamariki have been exploring different fundamental science concepts such as mixing textures and colours, gravity, cause and effect and how water changes different substances such as powder and sand. They have also been testing themselves physically with all kinds of climbing challenges and working alongside their peers to build a tower using plastic blocks and peg boards. These group experiences provide great learning opportunities for the tamariki such as turn taking, sharing, communicating and social skills. Some of the youngest tamariki were also saying the colour of the peg they were using and learning their numbers too.

This month we celebrated Hinamatsuri which is Dolls Day or Girls Day. This is a Japanese holiday celebrated every year on the 3rd of March.  Our tamariki had so much fun alongside teachers and friends, everyone had turns to hold the umbrellas as well as enjoying face painting and dancing together.

We also had great fun celebrating St Patrick's Day with lots of green themed activities as well as decorating our rooms, playing with balloons and dressing up in green. We tried Irish dancing and listened to the Irish music; everyone also enjoyed the delicious green foods. It is always great to celebrate and learn about different cultures and recognition of culture and identity is an important part of our centre philosophy.
