The importance of messy play
Our tamariki in the nursery have shown an interest in exploring messy play. Messy play is extremely important for a child's development. It provides children with an exciting tactile and sensory experience that inspires their curiosity, allows them to explore the world around them and enhances their learning, language and creativity.
Nga tamariki have had a great time exploring with the gloop. They used their hands to pick it up and let it run through their fingers. They got to explore the different textures of the gloop, as a substance that can go from a liquid to a solid and back to a liquid.
By offering messy play such as goop, the tamariki are learning an understanding of trying things out, exploring, playing with ideas and materials, and collaborating with each other. Other benefits of messy play include playing, imagining, inventing and experimenting/te whakaaro me te tūhurahura | te pūtaiao.
