We are so lucky to have such a wonderful reserve right next to our kindy. An important part of our philosophy at BestStart Richmond Kindy is to view the community as part of our children's learning environment and to utilise it to further support learning. This nature area is an inspiring place where children can explore, develop their physical skills, investigate and be outside and at one with nature.

Gary and his team from Wildland Consultants have been working hard in the gulley area to construct various challenges and exciting areas from the log wood pile created during come recent cleaning work, including ramps, steps, obstacles, and tables and chairs. This term our group of Bush Kindy kids have really enjoyed exploring these amazing areas. There are many branch and log piles to search under for insects, and branches for building huts and dens. At the top of the Gruffalo steps there is a cave which children have enjoyed exploring using torches to find spiders and bugs.

Bush Kindy is an established learning programme available for 4 years olds at Richmond Kindy. We take the same group of 8 children for a 1.5 hour lesson once a week for a full term (usually 10 weeks) to Waipahihi reserve gulley. For those that are passionate about being outdoors this can also extend to two terms! These outdoor lessons provide a variety of different learning experiences for children including develop new friendships, challenge themselves to take risks, and exploring the beautiful Taupo community with their kindy whanau.
