April has been a happening month at BestStart Meadowbank. While the  focus on ‘Our community’ continued, we celebrated Easter and Anzac day too! Here at Best Start Meadowbank we believe that Community serves as a basis for the child’s personal as well as social growth and development. Our motto is ‘Nurturing the heart of our community’. As part of this focus, we made plans to involve our lovely supportive whanau as well as the local community. Ruaridh’s mum Elizabeth who is a paediatric doctor came in for a doctor session, demonstrated using her stethescope and explained how a doctor’s day looked like. Librarian Tom from Remuera library came along with his  collection of books and songs and held a wonderful waiata and story session for us.

Easter Celebration

We had a lot of fun this year celebrating Easter. The talk about bunnies and Easter eggs started a week prior. The tamariki created their egg hunt baskets and easter bunnies . They baked hot cross buns by measuring, counting, transferring and mixing while teachers explained to them about the relevance of hot cross buns. We enjoyed dancing to ‘oma rapeti’ and ‘Mrs bunny’ and the egg hunt was the most fun of all. The children were very delighted and proud to take the Easter eggs home in their own little baskets. The celebrations demonstrated co operation, working together sharing and caring.

Anzac Day Celebration

The children participated in Anzac day experiences such as listening to Anzac stories, doing the poppy flower group art  and creating New Zealand flag with great enthusiasm. They also loved baking the  Anzac cookies and singing the national anthem in both English and Te reo. What a lovely way of sharing
