The month of July

The month of July was fun filled as we celebrated Matariki and engaged in lots of learning around this before sharing our new knowledge with our families on our whanau night. The Infant Room got to experience an interactive, sensory board. The stars on the board each had different textures and resources on them that represented the Matariki star they are associated with, they can be spun around which all the tamariki (children) enjoyed playing with.

In our Toddler Room we created a classroom korowai with all the tamariki being involved through decorating a feather each to then stick together. We all decided that a colourful bright korowai would represent our bubbly personalities best! Some of our tamariki even learnt how to plait alongside kaiako (teachers) to make the ties.

In our Preschool Room tamariki focused on learning waiata to share with our whanau. Our local primary school Kapa Haka group visits us fortnightly and teach us a haka, 'Te Waka'. Our tamariki learnt this day after day practicing with such passion to present this in front of our whanau. We got to see their confidence and knowledge progress over weeks and weeks of practice leading up to their big night. We couldn't have been any prouder!

To top off the Matariki celebrations we made some art to send to Jacinda Ardern, thanking her for making Matariki a public holiday. Some children made her some beautiful artwork to send via the post sharing our learning of Matariki. Jacinda swiftly responded thanking us for our artwork, so exciting!
