Here at BestStart Bader Street, whanaungatanga provides the foundation for everything we do.

As whanaungatanga is one of our centre values, we encourage nga tamariki to form meaningful relationships, not only amongst themselves and kaiako but with our local community too.

A special visit from our local police gave nga tamariki opportunities to learn how to keep themselves safe and which service to call in an emergency. Nga tamariki were so privileged to explore the police car as well as some police equipment, it was so wonderful to see our tamariki being gentle with the equipment.

Nga tamariki had a great time exploring the resources as they shared and took turns to have a look at the equipment. We noticed that nga tamariki engaged through active exploring which helps children learn through curiosity and inquiry. Such an authentic learning environment enabled nga tamariki to make connections between people, places, and things and develop social skills as they actively engaged in conversations with the officers.

Through this experience, nga tamariki enhanced their communication skills and developed reciprocal relationships. We are so great with the connection we have built with our local community and we are looking forward to more informative visits from our local community police.
