Painting is one of the most popular activities in our Pōtiki room at BestStart Russell St.  The teachers intentionally set up an inviting environment to support our youngest learners to be able to paint creatively.

After having some consistently wet days today we were lucky enough to get outside and so kaiako Emma decided to set up the painting easel and the deck outside.  Immediately a group of earnest painters came and surrounded the easel.  Some children preferred using the paintbrushes and other children enjoyed exploring with their fingers.  The young learners engaged in research on the texture of the paint and the taste and there were experiments on colour mixing.  All the little painters were very busy with their fabulous work.

As our centre vision is "Ready for School, Ready for Life" we pay attention to all play-based learning for all our learners.  Painting is one of the best activities to promote young children's holistic development.  It benefits children's general motor skills, fine motor skills, cognitive development and social-emotional development and integrates with the basic concepts of science.  Our infants learn to express themselves in this creative way and they build up social manners, like sharing and taking turns to use resources.

Our little painters are very competent, and their little minds are very powerful.
