The Story of our Waka
Our Waka was designed and built for us, to symbolise our bicultural journey together as we all learn and deepen our knowledge and understanding of Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori, and the stories and histories of our shared country.
Our waka is the anchor in our gathering place, it is our stage, our platform both for learning and for performing.
Traditionally, wakas are used for journeys, sport, for performance and for ceremonial purposes.
For us, our waka will be used to symbolise and anchor our learning journey, for performance and for ceremonial purposes.
Our waka includes a Tiki, a traditional Maori symbol of strength, ancestry, and birth, and five Koru which symbolise our five classroom groupings.
Today we all came together to bless and welcome our waka into our centre with blessings and song.

May calm be spread around you,
May the sea glisten like greenstone and the shimmer of summer dance across your path
