The Very Hungry Caterpillar
For the past couple of weeks, our tamariki (children) in the Rimu room have been busy reading and exploring a book called "The very hungry caterpillar" which they absolutely enjoyed and loved. Both younger and older tamariki in the classroom had opportunities to sit down with our kaiako (teachers) on the floor in a quiet space and had a meaningful time reading the book.
This week, we have decided to bring our children's previous learning experience about the book by setting up a trough experience that was based on the caterpillar which was the main character and the theme of the book. Our tamariki absolutely loved exploring the sensory experience; they were all about touching, tasting and feeling the texture of the shredded paper, finding the matching fruit items in the trough and exploring that delicious looking caterpillar toy! They had a great time revisiting their learning experiences by not only through the book material but also through a sensory play.
