Now that spring has sprung and the days are warming up, our nursery at BestStart Greerton has been exploring water play and the learning it brings with it. We have been experimenting with temperature (warm/cold), colour and different toys. With the fun of water play comes many learning benefits including the development of hand-eye co-ordination through tipping and poring the water, concentration, understanding floating and sinking, colours, sensory through temperature, volume and many more. All our tamariki seem to love water play and the soothing effect it brings. Water play is a way for our children to practice and refine their fine and gross motor skills as they squirt, squeeze, scrub or stir the water in the many varied containers we provide. We are looking forward to more and more waterplay opportunities as the summer approaches.
