This month has been busy!
In the kawakawa room (preschool ) this month there has been a variety of events that have taken place starting with our Queens high tea breakfast and dress up, the centre as a whole all got involved and made some delicious snacks for the high tea which we all enjoyed during a shared morning tea while being dressed up in our flashy outfits , the theme for the day was 'dress to impress. We also celebrated Jammies in June, all the children and teachers got to come dressed in their comfy pajamas for the day and we also got to make pizza with chef Jodi and enjoyed a movie.
The children were also encouraged to bring in jammies that they no longer use or are brand new to donate to families in need, this was a great cause as it taught our pre-schoolers to give to families who are less fortunate. There has also been a few visitors that have come to visit our pre-schoolers at BestStart starting with St Marys school that came to give our pre-schoolers who are nearly 5 year old a little talk about what they do at St Marys, what their uniform looks like and all the activities they get to do and lastly they were given a goodie bag with information and a few treats, all the children were so excited to head off to big school after this visit.
We also had St Johns ambulance service visit our pre-schoolers, and they came with their mini ambulance, which was super exciting for our pre-schoolers, they did a variety of activities, stories and role plays with our children which was great as it taught our pre-schoolers what to do in certain situations and who to call. They also gifted us with a little story book which we read on regular basis ,some colouring in sheets and stickers. This month has been very exciting and busy in the preschool room, there has been a huge interest in cars in the preschool room, so we decided to set up a kawakawa carwash which was such a great hit , the children absolutely loved exploring this activity.
They were all so excited to bring in their scooters and bikes and participate in the outdoor car wash. The carwash also involved road safety precautions and signs which the children all had to follow in order to participate in the carwash, this activity encourage children to learn road safety rules, road safety signs and to beware of other Childrens safety as well as theirs. This activity was great for turn taking, sharing, verbal communication and social skills. Lastly , this month we have been focusing on expression through art which provides the children with opportunities to express their ideas and feelings, use words, manipulate media and solve problems through their art.
We have also been focusing on building the children's confidence by building their self-esteem this helps children to cope with mistakes. It helps children to try again, even if they fail at first. As a result, self-esteem helps children to do better at school, at home, and with friends. We have been doing a variety of group setting activities , news during mat time, taking on the leader role and a lot of praising which has been working very well.
