In the nursery we have been working on tikanga and supporting our older tamariki to be a part of looking after and supporting their younger peers while also taking care of their environment. We have noticed a lot of nurturing and tuakana/teina relationships as they support and care for the younger tamariki. This has included helping them to eat their kai, sitting with them as they have their bottles, offering cuddles, looking after their 'babies' and encouraging physical development. They have also loved cleaning the classroom. Using cloths and brushes to wipe down and clean. Through learning about and respecting our environment and others they are gaining a sense of responsibility for their own wellbeing and that of others.

Along with an ability to connect their learning in the ECE setting with experiences at home and in familiar cultural communities and a sense of themselves as global citizens. Supporting their friends, learning self-help/care skills along with knowledge on how to care for the world around them.
