Transitioning from non verbal communication to using words
This month in the Toddler classroom, we've been focusing on communicating with one another. As our children transition from infancy through to toddler and young child, there comes a gradual shift from heavily using non-verbal communication to express thoughts, feelings and needs to using language. As with many transitions, our children need guidance to support them to develop appropriate strategies.
In the Toddler classroom, we've been working with our children to understand their own thoughts and feelings about a situation then, demonstrating how they can use their words to communicate this to others. We have also been working with our children to recognise how their friends may be feeling in the same situation.
