Transitions - The Positive Journey for Tamariki

1

Mahia i runga i te rangimārie me te ngākau māhaki (With a peaceful mind and respectful heart, we will always get the best results)

Moving from one room to another, going to school, meeting new people and exploring new environments can be both fun and challenging at the same time. Our kaiako do a wonderful job making transitions as seamless as possible.

Tamariki are ready for the the move to extend their learning journey and mostly it exceeds their expectations with new places to explore, familiar faces and some new ones but most of all is the sense of adventure that helps them stretch and grow. The introduction of our Messy Play program in the Tui Rumā (room) earlier this year has provided a sense of same for our pēpē (babies). Having familiar experiences create a calmness, a sense of knowing and belonging during these transitions. We see the benefits of how our tamariki quickly adapt to a different environment, have a sense of purpose and prior knowledge as these experiences which helps with the settling process.

Our nohinohi (toddlers) are excited to be entering our amazing Pre School area. The open spaces and well resourced room provides a lot of exploration, decision making and opportunity to really discover themselves, making new hoa and reconnect with those who have come before them.

There are challenges to the fast paced life of the Pre School which can sometimes be daunting, however the care the Weka Rumā kaiako take, working with the Pre School kaiako really make the transition smooth. By the third week of transitions our tamariki are ready to take on the challenge.

Collaborating with local kura (schools) and the B4 School Check team, our tamariki turning five are well set for the next chapter of their learning journey as well. Regular visits from local schools are now planned for the next year to support tamariki, whanau and help identify what is important for our Ākonga (students).
