At BestStart, we love to intentionally challenge our tamariki to extend their physical abilities while strengthening their confidence, resilience and trust. Our blindfolded obstacle course was a fun and engaging way to do just that.

Tamariki moved through a variety of challenges, jumping over hurdles, balancing across stepping stones, weaving around cones, stepping their feet into paint and finishing with the excitement of popping bubble wrap, which brought lots of laughter and joy.

This experience provided rich learning across many areas. Tamariki were developing their gross motor skills, balance, body awareness and coordination as they carefully navigated each part of the course. The obstacle course also promoted problem-solving and critical thinking, as tamariki had to figure out how to move their bodies safely and successfully without being able to see what was ahead.

Tamariki built trust in their kaiako and peers, listening to guidance and working together to complete the course. Overall, this was more than just a physical activity; it was a meaningful learning experience that supported the development of the whole child.

Through play, challenge and laughter, our tamariki are continuing to grow into capable, confident learners who are willing to take on new challenges.
