At BestStart Waikite Valley Kindy we use the environment as our third teacher, which is something that is very familiar to all of our tamariki. Recently we had a parent drop a baby turkey off for us to babysit for the day. The children loved interacting with it and were very gentle with our little friend.

We took turns patting it very softly and trying to encourage it to eat some food (we mashed up warm Weetbix). The tamariki took control of the situation by giving "her" a name; Tilly the Turkey and ensuring she was warm in her box with her hot water bottle and blanket. We are all about learning off one-another and showing ako, this also includes learning from our animals and environment.
