At BestStart MacDonald Street, we celebrated pink shirt day by dressing up in pink as well as releasing pink balloons.

Pink shirt day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness. It’s about creating a community where all people feel safe, valued and respected.

Our centre vision of Be Strong (Kia Kaha), Be Brave (Kia Maia), Be Steadfast (Kia Manawanui) teaches children to stand strong in their journey to stand up for their beliefs, whilst being tolerant of others and considerate of everyone’s feelings. Although we incorporate and encourage this everyday it was a fun way to remind everyone to be kind and considerate to others.

Last year, we sadly lost one of our amazing Kaiako, Cindy. As per her family’s request, we also released blue balloons on the anniversary of her passing in remembrance of the amazing teacher and friend that she was. While it was a sad moment, it was also a great time to remember Cindy and to ensure that her memory lives with us forever!
