Our tamariki have been learning about fire safety as part of their programme planning. After receiving the fire safety pack from the department our Tamariki were well versed with the song and the procedures of evacuation. After a months of learning we received the exciting news that Fire fighter John was ready to bring over the fire truck at the Centre.

It was a really exciting morning when the truck pulled over at the Centre. Fire fighter John and his work mates talked about Fire safety at mat time. They demonstrated how to wear the gear and explained what each piece were used for. In this demonstration we realised what a huge responsibility firemen actually have as they fight fires!

After this we went outside to see the fire truck. Children enjoyed sitting at the back seat of the fire truck.

Having a first hand encounter with these special people today gave the children an insight into another important role of responsibility in our society and this gave us a new perspective on the role firemen have in our community.
