Visiting Te Kete Aronui - Rototuna Library
At BestStart Maui Street, one of our centre priorities is to strengthen relationships with our learning communities. Thus our children have been fortunate enough to extend their learning out of the centre often, at a variety of community spaces. Recently, we felt thrilled taking a small group of BestStart Maui Street children to an exciting learning adventure - the newly built Rototuna library (Te Kete Aronui), that everyone had been talking about!
The children were all excited in the centre van before embarking on this special excursion. On arrival at the library, our children's eyes lit up for the modern surroundings - there were large windows to let in natural light, a cafe and many interesting book displays. Our children were all eagerly walking around the library to explore different areas.
At the library, the group of children spent a lot of time enjoying reading the picture books from shelf to shelf that caught their attention. Luckily, they were also invited to go into the bigger kids' technology room where they tried the marble run game! It was such a wonderful experience for our children to connect to the community at Te Kete Aronui.
This learning experience will enhance their oral language as well as their passion for reading as lifelong learners in the making!
