Today we went for an excursion to visit the Alexandra police.  We met Police Officer Tamah - one of our children's mothers who showed us around the station.

When we got to the Station, we all said good morning to Constable Tamah, who was dressed in her uniform with her duty belt on. Constable Tamah took us round the back of the station where she showed us the police cars. She asked the children to look in the front grills of the other cars to see if they could see anything different. Some of the children saw lights and Constable Tamah explained these cars were undercover cars or Detective cars that that used when they want to be secretive, so people don't know who they are.

Constable Tamah then took us into a garage where we stood against a wall while she shot a tazer gun at a rubber barrel so we could hear the electric sound that it made.  We were all amazed by it.

Constable Tamah then led us inside the police station where we went into the cells that people who have not made good decisions stay for a short while to have a think.  We then got to explore the interview rooms where they take people to ask questions and get information.

At the end of our tour , Constable Tamah showed us inside the police cars. In the boot there were road spikes, collapsible cones, first aid kit, wet weather jacket and a few other items. Constable Tamah put on the car sirens and flashing lights!  She then showed us the tools on her belt including a baton. She stretched it out and told us she would use it to break a car window if someone left a dog in the car on a hot day so they could get the dog out.

This brought us to the end of our visit. We had a photo taken of Constable Tamah in front of the police car. We said a big thank you and set off for the walk back to BestStart.
