On 11 August, the children at BestStart Stoddard Road enjoyed a fascinating educator-led session from Auckland Museum called Volcano Adventures.
The session sparked excitement and curiosity as the children learned about volcanoes, how they are formed, and the important role they have played in shaping the Auckland landscape.
Through interactive discussions and hands-on experiences, children were encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas, and think like young scientists.
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to explore the museum’s handling collection. The children showed great care and respect while investigating the specimens and objects provided. They were eager to touch, observe, and discuss what they discovered, demonstrating strong communication skills and a growing understanding of the world around them.
Throughout the session, children expressed wonder and curiosity as they learned new facts about volcanoes. Many were excited to share their own knowledge, ask thoughtful questions, and predict what might happen when a volcano erupts. Their enthusiasm created rich opportunities for learning and meaningful conversations with both their peers and the museum educator.

This visit provided an engaging way for children to develop their knowledge of the natural world while fostering skills such as observation, questioning, and critical thinking.
