Waitangi Day 2023
Waitangi day is an important day to be remembered throughout Aotearoa as it celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840, creating a strong partnership between Māori and Pākeha.
Waitangi day, a national public holiday in New Zealand, is not just about remembering and honouring the signing of the Treaty. It's also about celebrating all that's involved in this. Partnership is one of the key components in the Treaty, which means both Māori and Pākeha should work together to create partnership throughout New Zealand.
In Ruma Pūtohe (toddlers) we have created our Te Tiriti o Ruma Pūtohe and we have all agreed to follow it.
To celebrate Waitangi day our tamariki painted their vision of the New Zealand flag and painted feathers for our Ruma Pūtohe Korowai. We sang our national anthem and did a few steps of haka together with the singing and we all loved doing it.
We also had morning tea for our whānau to enjoy.
