Water Feature Fun!

BestStart Burnside is the place to be in summer to keep cool and learn under the sun! We have two water features in the Kea room and a sustainable water feature in the Kahu room. The Kahu room water feature collects rain water from the roof of the sandpit, into the wine barrel below.

The Kahu children have the autonomy to lead this themselves and amuse themselves in the wonderful world of water play. The tamariki fill up buckets, watering cans, pots and pans, to transport to areas like the sandpit surrounding gardens or water trough. Water play is a fantastic way to develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination as the tamariki tip, scoop and carry the water. Children often collaborate during water play, as they learn to share the water and cooperate with others. This links directly to our Auahatanga pillar in our philosophy as we grow curious and confident children.
