On day 2 of our holiday programme, many of the tamariki arrived at preschool excitedly with their togs and were eager to get them on and “go swimming”. We started off the day with a range of water and ice experiences out to explore. The tamariki enjoyed playing with coloured ice balls in water, “it’s freezing” and “cold on my hands” were heard by many of them. The hanging balloons filled with water and the water balloons in the water trough were fun to explore as they manipulated them with their hands and used their fine and gross motor skills to explore them. Making holes in them and squirting the water around, made many of the tamariki laugh. Ice painting was also another popular experience, they created art work and talked about the different colours they could see on their paper. A few of the tamariki decided that they would get their togs on and this led to many of them changing into their togs eager to go on the water slide and under the sprinkler. It was awesome to see all the smiles and hear lots of laughter as they lined up and took turns to run under the Dinosaur sprinkler and race down the water slide. Some of the tamariki also enjoyed using the water squirters to spray each other during the one-on-one games.
