Water play in the summer!

Kia ora!

We have been having the best time over these past few days as it has been nice and warm with the beautiful sunshine here in Christchurch.

Our tamariki at BestStart Styx Mill have been engaging in a lot of water play which is great for sensory development such as the sense of touch where they can feel the have direct contact with water when getting wet or pouring water on themselves. They can also feel how the water changes other objects, such as a sponge – going from dry to soaked.

Tamariki are naturally curious about the world around them. As they grow older, playing in water can offer sensory play experiences that help develop cognitive processes such as cause-and-effect thinking and problem solving. Even our teachers had a go at jumping over the sprinkler, and wrapped up these moments with a warm towel hug.
