We are doing our bit
Recently the teachers have attended some professional development courses on Sustainability. Topics covering teaching and learning about, gardening, reusing and recycling materials, teaching children to be creative and innovative of using materials in their play to reduce waste.
We have been doing our little bit by reusing cardboard and cardboard boxes for drawing, painting and building. Countdown paper bags for writing and painting and collage. As we think deeper and do more with reusing materials, creative ideas are emerging. Today we found some creased long piece of brown paper in the packaging. Some children were asking for more paper for drawing so we cut the paper and ironed them flat to be used again. Involving children in this experience was just wonderful. They were practicing ironing skills, learning about reusing and minimising waste and cost,saving some trees and above enjoying the experience.
