Today we celebrated Diwali with our beautiful whanau almost after two years. Diwali is a festival of lights that embraces the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and the human ability to overcome. Throughout this week, a lot of learning happened for our tamariki. Also, we got support from our whanau by coming to the centre compromising their valuable time, and showing their cooking skills by making different Indian sweets. We did a lot of activities for Diwali, such as making diyas, and henna designs for tamariki and Kaiako, making cards, decorating the room, and performing. Also, our families brought plates of food to share.

This was a great opportunity for us to connect with families. Celebrating different cultural festivals, we are able to build strong relationships with whanau a,nd also, children learn and develop best, hen their culture and identity is recognized and valued within the centre. This was also a way of enhancing sethe nse of belonging where child and whanau are treated with respect and their culture and identity is valued.
