Here at BestStart Marshland Road we love getting messy. Today in our pēpē room the teachers facilitated a body painting experience for messy play day. Throughout this experience the nga tamariki used their bodies in a variety of different ways to spread the paint all over the sheets. They tried walking over it, spreading it with their fingers and hands and lying down in the paint. The nga tamariki even had a taste test of the paint and the teachers role modelled different ways of exploring the paint as well. Through providing a body painting experience it encourages the tamariki to refine their fine and gross motor skills, to refine their hand-eye and foot-eye coordination and it supports their balancing skills. It supports their social development skills as they paint and explore alongside their peers. This experience also encourages the nga tamariki communication skills while they explore.
