At BestStart Abacus we have been exploring our outside environment as the tamariki have had a big interest in insects. We arranged a visitor from Greening Taupo to come in and help educate us on our outdoor environment and the special things that live within it.

Through this experience the tamariki learnt about how we care for insects, and how we can care for and respect nature. They learnt strategies for making sense of their natural world through exploring and questioning their environment.

It was an amazing opportunity for all the tamariki to learn about different insects, and different types of greenery in our playground.

Within our centre philosophy we believe " children learn best through play, through the freedom to express themselves. by facing challenges, experimenting with ideas, and developing their curiosity, confidence and independence"

During the experience, the tamariki had with our friend from Taupo Greenery they were able to learn through play, have the freedom to express themselves as they explored their outdoor environment while hunting for bugs. As they searched and explored, they would use team work and with the knowledge and help of our friend to help educate us on our outdoor environment and what secrets it holds!
