In the Nursery at BestStart Pukekohe West we love to learn through play and our experiences through exploring with our senses. Children love to explore with their senses so what better way than to support this with ‘Messy Play!’

Here is an example how we set up a wonderful sensory experience for the tamariki in the Nursery. We got the cornflour and water and sat down with the tamariki and slowly began to add the water to the cornflour.  The tamariki watched this in amazement as we mixed it with our hands. They were all very eager to feel the gloop and squish it between their fingers to feel the texture. We took this opportunity to incorporate communication and language skills by talking to the tamariki about the colour of the gloop and asking them how it felt.
