Our group project has been about the Guardians of the Earth (Kaitiaki of Papatuanuku)

As an extension of the children's interest in this topic and their observations of the sky, I helped facilitate and activity for our 4 year old focus time. We made weather spinners. I made one with them to demonstrate the instructions as a visual cue.

First we coloured the weather pictures in. Then came the part where we all needed to focus for a long period of time and persist with difficulty. We had to cut the circle out that had our weather pictures on that we just coloured in and cut out the spinner arrow. This took some time. I loved the way some children stayed to ask for help. Asking for help from a teacher is just so important. Next we glued the picture onto the paper plate and I put the sharp pin in. They all looked mighty fine!

Through this experience, children were developing their fine motor skills by drawing and using scissors. The are developing their patience when using scissors and they are persisting with difficulty.

This learning story relates to some parents aspirations for their children to be school ready. Our children are well on the way to being school ready and I am so proud of them.

The teachers will provide more opportunities to facilitate listening skills and fine motor activities. Scissor skills still need to be worked on.
