He Taonga te mokopuna, kia whangaia, kia tipu, kia rea. A child is a treasure, to be nurtured, to grow, and to flourish.

Kia Ora, Whanau! Here at BestStart Kauri Flats, we've welcomed 2023 by engaging in different activities covered through our holiday programme and children enjoyed a variety of different experiences shared below. Through these activities, the children gained a better understanding of different ways to be creative and expressive. A few highlights of our holiday programme are as follows:

Cultural Day - This was a wonderful opportunity for our kaiako and tamariki to come dressed in their cultural clothing. The children enjoyed representing their culture and discussing their clothing and flags.

Wheels/Bike Day - Our tamariki were very enthused and loved showing off their ‘wheels’. Bikes and scooters were brought into the centre and our tamariki enjoyed sharing with other children who wanted a turn.

Sensory Experiences - Babies, toddlers and preschoolers enjoyed a variety of sensory activities.

Book Character Day - Tamariki loved dressing up like their favourite book and superhero characters.

Messy Play - Messy play is always fun! A range of activities were laid down during the day and tamariki had loads of fun engaging in such activities.

Wacky Wednesday - Children had such a great time sharing their wacky clothes and hairstyles with their friends and kaiako. This experience helped to welcome everyone back to the centre while making those important connections between the centre and home. The feedback from our whanau was very positive.

We also celebrated the Chinese New Year as a centre and dressed in yellow and red. Celebrating Chinese New Year allowed our children the opportunity to explore and gain an understanding of the diverse cultures we have as New Zealanders. They were able to gain insight and develop respect for other cultures and for some children, it gave them the opportunity to share their culture with their peers.

We wish you all a very happy 2023 and are excited for the year ahead!
