Whanaugatanga
In the Fantail room at BestStart Glasgow Street our planning is based around Whanaugatanga where we are working on building strong reciprocal relationships not only between the kaiako and tamariki, but also modelling how to work with and alongside our peers, taking turns and sharing resources. We also love to get creative and use our imagination, what better way than with sand and water in the mud kitchen.
The tamariki enjoyed using a range of equipment and utensils that would commonly be found in their kitchen at home to create muffins and cakes, taking turns with stirring the bowls and scooping in the ingredients.
Play such as this helps to stimulate both gross and fine motor development, exploring tactile sensations and building on their hand- eye co-ordination as well as encouraging independence and language development.
