Whanaungatanga is one of our centre values. Relationships, aroha, and creating a sense of family connection are important to us. We value relationships through shared experiences and working together to provide tamariki and whānau with a sense of belonging. Below is some feedback from whānau showing whanaungatanga in action in the Nursery at BestStart Te Whāriki:

  • ‘We have seen M growing alongside you guys for almost 2 years. We really appreciate the way you guys looked after her during this time’
  • ‘We do feel a strong sense of belonging in the centre and made to feel welcome. The team are all very friendly and helpful in the settling-in process. The teachers and children made the settling in special as we felt comfortable and happy to see him being taken care of and we can see how excited and happy he is to play with the other children’
  • ‘From day one everyone introduced their names to me which makes me feel so welcome. All the teachers are so friendly and amazing at what they do. Everyone is very approachable.’
  • ‘We have been made to feel so welcome and we love the StoryPark app and getting photos of what B gets up to during his time with you. I appreciate every teacher in the nursery.’
  • ‘We have found the nursery team to be exceptional and consistently exceeded our expectations. Your rangatiratanga, wisdom, and mana gave us total confidence from day one that we could trust our L with you and the team. We found the support and advice you provided to us as parents to be reassuring and so valuable.’
  • ‘You show genuine interest and passion for L’s progression. L was always so comfortable with you and always so happy to see you. It made the drops off’s so much easier when he would reach his little arms out for a cuddle with you when we arrived!’
  • ‘Their warmth and passion is genuine and showed us that they also cared about L and his development, and we trusted the whole team completely with L’s care.’

Whanaungatanga is seen in actions, as a feeling that whānau get as they come into the room and the relationships the kaiako have with them and their tamariki each and every day. Where there is relationships and connection, there is trust and security. With these, a child can learn and grow.
