Whanaungatanga with BestStart Epsom

At BestStart Epsom, we work in partnership with our whanau. We believe that the well-being of each child is interdependent with the well-being of their Kaiako, parents and whanau. Children learn and develop best when the people in their lives help them to make connections across settings.

As part of Whanaungatanga, last week, we invited one of our parents to share some info about her profession as a Gynaecologist/obstetrician with our little learners.

The tamariki demonstrated curiosity and keen listening to Yvonne. She showed the children some books about the body parts and where the baby grows inside their mummy's body. She also read some books about the different organs in the body and how to keep our bodies healthy.

She demonstrated to the tamariki the use of a stethoscope. Children were excited to touch and use the stethoscope. They all showed immense patience while waiting for their turn to use a stethoscope to hear the heartbeat of their friend.

It was an amazing experience for our tamariki to hear the heart beating. It was the perfect time to convey some knowledge about how to keep our hearts healthy. Eating vegetables and fruits and regular exercise keeps our heart healthy.

Through this experience, the tamariki developed a deeper understanding of the human body and ways to keep it healthy.

We are very thankful to Yvonne for taking out time from her busy schedule to visit us and sharing her knowledge with our tamariki.

Te Whariki : Children and their families experience an environment where connecting links with the family and the wider world are affirmed and extended.
