Often during the years of early childhood education, you will hear the term ‘complexity of play’ and you may ask yourself what this really means?

At Beststart Parnell, we aim to provide a learning environment that promotes and inspires complex play. This means play is not just play but all play is seen as a learning journey for our tamariki (children). When a learning environment has complex play you will see:

  • Children who are confident learners, leading their learning through play following their interests to build knowledge.
  • Children who are engaged in learning that deepens their knowledge of the world around them.
  • Children with a range of skills and strategies to play and learn through solitary and group play.
  • Teachers who are on hand engaged in the play and learning and ever building on the knowledge children already have.
  • Teachers with a deep knowledge of curriculum and planning, ready to follow your child's interests to build a unique learning journey for them.
  • A learning environment that invites children to explore different areas of learning through play.
  • A place where play is a learning adventure ever opening new doors to knowledge.
