In Kākāriki, our current focus is on exploration as a foundation for learning.
We intentionally design an environment rich in open‑ended experiences that invite ngā tamariki to investigate, experiment, and make sense of the world around them.
This aligns with Te Whāriki’s vision of children as competent and capable learners, driven by curiosity and empowered to lead their own discoveries.
Lately, ngā tamariki have been particularly engaged in messy play, where they explore a wide variety of textures and materials. Through this sensory play, they are developing important learning outcomes across Te Whāriki, including problem‑solving, communication, creativity, and motor development.
By offering hands‑on, open‑ended experiences, we support children to lead their own learning, follow their interests, and grow in confidence as capable, curious explorers.
