When St John visited us
On Friday we were lucky enough to have Kathryn and Amby from St John, Blenheim, come into centre and teach us a bit about what they do for us and what to do if someone gets hurt or sick.
Kathryn showed us some pictures of the emergency services we have in New Zealand and taught us that the Police, Fire services and the Ambulance service are all to keep us safe and that we can ask them for help if we need it. Kathryn then asked some of us to come up and model some of the jackets that the St Johns people wear to keep them safe when they are out helping people.
Kathryn then asked us what we thought we might find in an Ambulance. The children all said things like a bed, a seatbelt to keep us safe, medicine and bandages. Kathryn told us that they also have special teddy bears that get donated so that when young children go in the ambulance they get a teddy to help them feel comfortable and that there is always a seat for a mum, dad or another adult.
After we looked at some of the equipment and read a story together, we got to have some fun and wrap our teachers up in bandages. Kathryn got us to get into groups with a teacher and gave us a bandage each to wrap ourselves and each other with, it was so much fun.
Lastly, we got to see Amby's lights and hear its siren so we know what to keep an eye out for.
Thank you very much, St John and Kathryn, for coming and teaching us so much.
