Wild @ Heart (Nature Discovery)

At Wild @ Heart Waihopai Kindy we spend one day a week exploring ngahere (forests) with Mr. Kevin. We have so much fun climbing trees, splashing in puddles, and learning about the manu (birds) and plant life. We often check traps for rats, stoats, and possums to make sure these pests are not causing problems in the bush.

Sometimes we go on a big walk around the bush looking for mushrooms and other exciting things. Some of our favourite places are the dragon's nest, tricky tree, and mudslide. Some of the things we are learning about include being good kaitiaki of our environment, Manaakitanga, and Tuakana taina as we support each other and build friendships.

We are also developing our upper body strength and self-help skills while learning about orienteering as we navigate the bush. This is an unhurried child-led time where we get to explore, be creative, take risks, and give new things a try while we make connections with ngahere and our friends.

Each time we visit, we grow in confidence and expertise while having lots of fun. We would love for you to come and join us on our adventures.
