At BestStart Papanui, we have strong connections with our community and we just love to explore what our surrounding area has to offer. On a chilly Monday, we put on our jackets and hats and took the opportunity to enjoy the sunny wintery weather embarking on a fun excursion to St. James Park.

As a part of our current planning within the Preschool 'exploring life cycles' we were able to undertake lots of korero about the seasonal cycles and observations of winter characteristics and its changes. We loved talking about the bareness of the trees and the colours of the grasses, leaves, and our surroundings.

We explored nature's loose parts and encouraged our tamariki to do this with their own whanau. As part of our philosophy at BestStart Papanui, we embrace our environments and all the learning that comes from Papatuanuku as outdoors provides the freedom to enjoy natural environments in a multisensory way.

We also talked a lot about walking safely and how we cross the roads which really supports our tamariki’s knowledge of different environments as well as allows them to develop independence skills; developing situational awareness and a sense of connection to our communities.
