Wonders of water

The weather in Hamilton has finally started to settle in for the summer, and the tamāriki have been wanting only one thing – water play!

Because the tamāriki have shown such an interest in water play, we have decided to focus on this in Rūma Māia - looking at where water comes from, how we use it in our everyday lives, how we can respect water as a valuable natural resource, and the different ways we can experience water play in our daily programme.

Here we have a way in which the tamāriki can practice their fine motor skills using pipettes to move coloured water from one container to another. This involves great concentration and perseverance to finish the task, as well as incorporating basic science and math concepts.  The tamāriki had loads of fun doing this as alongside each other, and have been requesting the same activity each day since.

We can’t wait to see where ‘Wonders of Water’ is going to take us this summer!
