Xin Nian Hao | Happy New Year. This week we celebrated Chinese New Year 2023 - the year of the rabbit! Chinese New Year is an important celebration in the Chinese culture. It is celebrated with 15 days of: togetherness with family, delicious food, fireworks and the colours red and gold which brings good fortune for the year. Children are given lucky red envelopes with money in them which are meant to bring good luck. Each year is represented by one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and this year is the year of the rabbit.

At preschool we celebrated by decorating our rooms with red streamers and red balloons and the children wore red and gold clothes to bring good luck. We played music, danced and learnt how to say Xin Nian Hao. We also made gold rabbits and red lanterns to celebrate the light festival, which ends the celebration of Chinese New Year. We love to be able to explore all the cultures within our centre throughout the year and learn about ways in which we celebrate special occasions across different cultures.
