Summer is here and Strawberries are everywhere. Our akonga loves strawberries and a lot of them bring it in their lunch boxes too.

Last year we did a strawberry excursion to Bell’s and Berry along with tamariki and whanau picking and eating the yummy strawberries.  We further extended this learning and planted our own strawberry plants in the garden bed at the centre to see how strawberries grow. Fortunately, the strawberry plants did well throughout the year and spread around covering most of the bed. Now, our Kaiako along with the akonga are able to pick and eat our own strawberries.

We plucked all different stages of the strawberry life cycled from our strawberry bed and stuck it on a paper for our akonga to observe. The learning was meaningful, engaging and fascinating as we Kaiako learned alongside our tamariki.
